  • 1/3 cup barley tea, apple juice, or chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken thighs with salt and pepper and place them in the slow cooker.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together barley tea (or apple juice/chicken broth), brown sugar, soy sauce, and minced garlic. Pour the mixture over the chicken.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or high for 3 hours until the chicken is tender.
  4. To thicken the sauce, whisk cornstarch with cold water in a small bowl until smooth. Add this mixture to the slow cooker about 30 minutes before cooking is complete.
